This year's MET Gala didn't disappoint. This year’s fundraising event marked the opening of the MET Museum's “In America: An Anthology of Fashion,” the second installment in a two-part exhibition. To match the exhibition, the dress code was gilded glamour and white tie.
The dress code, explained.
The gilded glamour dress code refers to the Gilded Age which was a period in time from the 1870s to the early 1900s. As the Met puts it, "In that period, art infused everything—furniture, lighting, ceramics, metalwork, jewelry, even dress—and manifested itself in artistic interiors." Everyone who was wealthy enough, wanted to show off their fortune and culture. So, think extravagance. Think jewels, silks, strong siloulettes.

Then, there's the white tie. White tie is the most formal dress code you can get (even more formal than black tie!). It goes without saying, but wearing a white tie is the expectation. There are also a number of other dress regulations including high waisted pants, evening tailcoats, and stiff white evening shirts and waistcoats.
Okay, so basically, guests were expected to be completely OTT. So, let's have a look at how they went! Here are our favourite looks.
